The 2021 conference tournament picks are in and the master spreadsheet is updated with all our selections. Spreadsheets are attached and located via this link. Click on and bookmark this link, I update the standings multiple times each day. If the season crashes and burns again like last year I am keeping everyone's money and buying myself alcohol. But for now we have excitement!
I know many of you are challenged by technology
and spreadsheets, so I will always have 2 versions of the spreadsheet posted. Hint: Make
sure when you open the excel document you are clicking on “Enable Editing” and
“Enable Content”
- Fun
Version: 2021 Conference Tournament Champions Master (This has
all the features and functionality to show things like
"Accuracy" and "Max Points Available")
- Stupid Boring
Version: 2021
Conference Tournament Champions Master Light (This will error out
many of the added features that I worked hard on, but at least you can
still see standings and picks)
- We technically
have standings as we have separation based on Max Points due to
people that picked more teams eligible for bonus points; Heffron
starts out in 1st place with his insane 17 bonus points that will never
come through. Izzy and BI are not far behind in 2nd and 3rd place.
- The spreadsheet
will outline your overall standings, Wins, Losses, Bonus Point Wins, Bonus
Point Losses, and Max Bonus Points, which all calculate into your
Accuracy, Max Points Available, and Your Projected Total; you will always
have a clear picture of where you stand.
- The bottom of
the standings right now is rounded off by Sohler, Rob Lowe and
Penguin as they have the chalkiest picks. All boring 1 and 2 seeds.
- If you scroll down past everyone's picks, you will see a conference snapshot that included tournament start dates, our pool favorite (most popular pick), the favorite from TeamRankings, and other important dates.
As conference tournaments complete between now
and Selection Sunday (3/14/21) I will post updates along with the current
standings via the blog. Blog link is below. I will also send e-mail
updates periodically for those that absolutely refuse to use the blog.
Typically for the first few days I will send information in e-mail, but I will
back off of that once things get going. Depending how bored I get a work I will
sometimes update the blog twice or even 3 times each day.
This Blog is a great way to
pass time during the day...
2021 Conference Tournament Challenge Blog
Conference tournaments have already tipped off for the America East, Big South and Horizon League but this is the section where I talk about that I will write up a preview each day on what to watch for, things that are impactful to our pool. This is the 1st time we have launched the pool with conference tournaments already in progress.
Please look very carefully through all your picks and if I made an error that needs to be changed reach out to me by the end of today, Monday, 3/1/21. I will only make the change if a mistake was made when I was entering your picks, no going back and changing any of your terrible picks now that you see them out in the open and feel embarrassed. No changes will be allowed after Monday, 3/1/21.
Conference tournaments are underway. These first
few days are tough because you cannot rack up any wins, you can only get losses
until an actual championship game takes place. So, the game right now is to minimize
the number of losses for you and root for everyone else to lose teams.
Remember, you will want to bookmark this link so you can see up to date
standings throughout the next few weeks. Standings will be
updated a few times each day, or sometimes as games complete.
To review for any one new to this - because the
regular season is still in progress for many conferences, updates to the Master
Spreadsheet will continue to happen over the next several days as conference
tournament seeding is finalized for the different conference tournaments.
This may impact your bonus points and max possible points. For example,
Virginia Tech is a 3 seed as of right now, but after they finish out the
regular season, they very well could change to a 1 or 2 seed. This means
that anyone who has Virginia Tech right now as a 3 seed, if they change to a 1
seed, that gets updated in the spreadsheet and the bonus point potential goes
away. Obviously, we also can see the opposite happen for some teams.
Below is a reminder of the
current COVID related rules:
1. Effective
immediately, if a team you picked is eliminated due to COVID, that will count
as a loss, even if that conference did not tip off its conference tournament.
This also applies if your pick opted out of the conference tournament as we may
see some big-name teams opt out (i.e., Gonzaga).
2. If a
conference decides to cancel its conference tournament it will not be a loss,
we will simply remove that conference from our pool, just as we did with the
Ivy League. This is important as not having a loss has an impact to win % which
is important for standings tiebreakers.
3. As
conferences change its tournament format and/or seeding you are not entitled to
changing your pick. All picks are final.
4. The seed number once a champion is crowned is what will be used in our pool for bonus points and payouts. Many conferences have implemented or are discussing reseeding after the first rounds. Also, the Sunbelt is using letters in their seeding so who knows what that will look like once a champion is crowned.
