Appalachian State and UNC Greensboro Are Going Dancing

We had a very surprising ticket punched tonight when (4E) Appalachian State knocked off (1E) Georgia State in the Sun Belt conference tournament. The weird letter based seeding does not do this upset justice because if the seeding would not have been separated by region, Appalachian State would be a 8 seed knocking off the 1 seed. Absolutely nobody in our pool got this one correct, chalk up 30 losses in the Sun Belt conference tournament for us. This picking winners stuff is hard.

Over in the Southern Conference championship game (7) Mercer couldn't give us our second upset of the night and (1) UNC Greensboro ended up pulling off the win in the last 60 seconds. Only 5 people picked the number 1 seed, making this a fairly important conference winner for our pool. UNC Greensboro was not even on our radar or Team Rankings radar when predicting the conference tournament winner.

These were not the only 2 conference tournament games, in fact, when looking at the few other games played, it was a complete bloodbath tonight. Key losses for our pool tonight include (4) Hofstra losing to (8) Elon and (2) Northeastern getting beat by (6) Drexel in the Colonial, (4) Northern Kentucky getting blasted by (3) Oakland in the Horizon League and (1) South Dakota State going down to (4) Oral Bob on a buzzer beater and (2) South Dakota losing a close one to (3) North Dakota State in the Summit League. 2 Dakota's killed in the matter of a few hours.

Let's take a look at our current top 4:

  1. Dan fucking Sohler jumps into the number 1 spot with 4 wins and 27 max points
  2. If the 6th sort option was alphabetical Z to A then Whit would be in 1st place. Both he and Sohler have the same amount of points, losses, max points and projected totals
  3. Chris Iannuzzi still holding in the top 3 with his 4 wins, but those max points are going to start to hurt
  4. Heffron moves into the 4th spot with 3 wins and a crazy high 35 max points
